![]() ![]() ![]() I've heard that Rhino is very good at importing/exporting various different CAD file types, and it's the software that two of the workshops we work with use. We have been considering Rhino6 since a one off payment of ~$US999 would be MUCH cheaper than the on-going payments for SolidWorks. We will however be needing a CAD package of some sort in future, and I was hoping someone here could give suggestions. While we have done well with SolidWorks so far, I'm not that fond of SolidWorks or Dassault Systèmes in general, and no one we're working with seems to be using SolidWorks. Our SolidWorks subscription (Standard version - no extras) recently came up for renewal and we declined to renew because of the significant cost (especially since we're not making a profit yet) and the fact that I'll barely be using it over the next few months. This plant has mostly been manufactured now, and we are moving into a testing/commissioning phase which means I'm not spending much time in CAD. The main product we have been developing is a shipping container based gas generation system - think pipes, reactors, pumps, fans, etc. My SolidWorks models have really helped the team to visualise our ideas, keep investors updated on our progress, as well as to create files to send out for manufacture. ![]() I've been using SolidWorks for the last nine months in my work as Mechanical Design Engineer of a small start-up company. ![]()
